Did the SSAT Get Harder?

I was browsing through some old SSAT books that belonged to an older friend (from 2004 and 2006) and I noticed that the timings for the SSAT dramatically changed. All sections used to be 25 minutes, but in the last couple of years, they've added five minutes to verbal, and quantitive sections, and 15 minutes to reading comprehension.

It may sound like a dumb question, but has the SSAT gotten harder in the past couple years, since they are giving much more time. I am aware that the test varies for different batches of test takers, and always varies within the years.

Thank you!
(btw, if you have any SSAT reading comprehension tips, please post them on my other thread! :))

I read that a couple of years ago, SSAT added time to the tests so that time is no longer as big of a factor. I did not read anything that indicated that they also made the tests harder.

i think the tests are easier now actually…

Speaking of the SSAT, how common are 2400s? I’d have to assume way more common than on the SAT.

Also, does anyone think/know if getting a 2400 makes a difference to a school vs. a 99th percentile score (which I guess would start in the high 2200 range)?

thanks for the info!
anymore people know the answer?

SevenDad - it’s unlikely. There’s really not an appreciable difference between a 2300 (which is where I think 99th percentile starts - not 2200) and a 2400, not on a test with a ceiling as low as the SSAT.

I think it looks better if you have 98%-99% in all three sections, than other “types” of 99% overall. A total score of 2400 or a 2360 may not make much of a difference.
