Did the University disclose they were going to dramatically grow Ross BBA seats?

I’ve been a management consultant, and that is quite an exaggeration about how they spend their time. They do travel a lot.

It can vary by firm. As I wrote, travel often comes a bit later after experience with Excel & PowerPoint & writing emails requesting info. from clients. But, it can vary by firm.

Most hires tend to be former interns so the internship involves a lot of Excel & PowerPoint & info. gathering & assimilation.

@happy1 idk if instagram posts can be posted here but that’s an online source for the 644, which is more than even 625. and everyone is saying my yr 2022 is going to be closer to 700

"michiganross: This week, these 644 BBAs officially started their sophomore year at Michigan Ross!! We can’t wait to see how you’ll chart your own path through the next three years and beyond.

RossBBA #MichiganRoss #GoBlue"

@intparent: Also depends upon when you worked in MC & where. Many lower level MC firms just offer a week or two of training then put you out on the road meeting clients face-to-face for onsite work & bill collection. I am writing about MBB & elite second tier firms.

hannah is a boy name now or you’re just being sexist? it’s not to hell w everyone else, it’s bait and switch. ross wasn’t my only option. i’m here because I wanted an intimate and very selective business school setting, not a BBA diploma mill trade school that’s going to have 700 students a year and less cachet. idk it just seems like a greedy money grab to get tuition from 150 more out of state students. it’s not like michigan is hard up for money, we have a 10 billion endowment

Your class size of 644 is only 3% higher than the published target of 625 which seems quite reasonable, If future classes are larger it will have minimal impact on you as the majority of your classes and the competition for jobs will come primarily from students in your own class, not future students.

Complaining on CC does you no good. At this point it is what it is – as it see it your options are to make the most of your situation at Ross or look into transferring. UM is an excellent school and IMO you should focus your time and energy on working towards having a successful, fulfilling, and happy expereince there.

@hannahw18 Apologies. I hadn’t read your user name or parsed it to see that it says hannah.

Did Ross lure you in with promises of the class size? Did they tell you it would not change? I don’t think Ross uses its class size as “bait.” Also, to maximize success in business, you need to be a master at handling changes in your environment. Agile and Nimble are the buzzwords.

Oh, the irony! You are criticizing Ross for increasing its class size as a ploy to get more money because you believe your opportunity to get more money will be diminished.

Also, how to you know the extra 150 will be from OOS? I don’t think they are allowed to specify that they’re opening extra slots earmarked for OOS students.

I worked for one of the “elite second tier firms” for 10 years. And have subcontracted with a few of the others over the years. The responsibilities vary quite a bit depending on the incoming hire’s experience and the projects the office is working on at the time. While Excel & PowerPoint are tools used, there is a great deal more to the work than that (at least by those who are good enough enployees to be retained).

@happy1 The information I had when I applied as a senior was for the BBA class of 2016. Per U of M, there were 497 BBA grads in 2016, so it’s not just 3% growth, growing to upwards of 700 students per year is more like 35-40% growth. An extra 200 peers competing for the same amount of prestige positions doesn’t benefit me in any way.

Please refer to the article in my prior post #10 which was written 9/16 and talked about planned increases to Ross.

In any event I reiterate my comments in post #25 – it is time to stop whining on CC – nobody here can change the situation so I recommend you just move forward.

A class of 625 is “intimate”? If that’s true, 644 isn’t too much different. At the university where I work, increasing the class size by that much might require an extra section of an intro course, but that’s not a given. Twenty students isn’t that many to absorb.

People on CC post where and when they want. We don’t need to be affiliated with either U of M or Ross to comment on this thread. You can choose whose posts to read, but you don’t get to choose who posts.

I think you’re misunderstanding your relationship with the college. You have a business arrangement – they’ll offer you an excellent education and you’ll pay for the privilege of attending – but that’s as far as it goes. No college I know of promises to freeze its growth for the 4 years a particular cohort is there. How could they? If they froze the number of Ross attendees for the 4 years that you’re there, when could they increase class sizes? The year after you graduate is the 4th year of the class behind you, and the next year will be the 4th year for the class after them, and so on. It’s unrealistic to believe that colleges won’t ever increase class sizes or that you’re a victim of bait and switch if yours did. You’re a business major, and this is business. If the class is too large for your comfort, you may benefit from finding a smaller school.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Time to close the thread, I believe.
