reduce the amount of essays to read...

Haha I wrote a supplemental essay styled after the last chapter of James Joyce's "Ulysses."

Application suicide?

I sent in HYP at the same time (around the SCEA deadline) because I used my Yale supplement essay for both the H and P supplements. I figured if my shiz was good enough for Yale, it should be good enough for the other two... good thing I got in, or that logic could have worked against me :(.

Ha, I think my supplemental essay was more suicidal.
It was basically a series of testimonials from my friends saying why I should get into Harvard.
It's so going to screw me, but they'll probably have a good laugh while they're rejecting me.

I wouldn't think so. Have you read "The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man"?

Joyce was eloquent! It probably increased your chances.

Blair: Have you read Ulysses?

Whoever did that, though, I think that was a pretty neat idea.

i wrote a rap.

any thoughts?

^ You'll stand out.

I didn't do the optional essay either. I originally compiled a book list (one of their suggestions for the optional essay), but after reviewing my supplement, I decided that the book list should go in the Additional Information section of the common app so all my colleges could see it. As the Dec. 1 preferred deadline had arrived, I just sent it off without the optional essay.
On the flip side, as someone mentioned earlier, I did do the Penn additional essay, but I had more time for Penn as they didn't specify an early deadline.

i did it, but didnt do my penn one either.

i only did it because i had the supp i used for princeton, brown, yale.

hookem: "a few extra hours of writing time"???

Wow!

My essays took weeks and weeks and even then I didn't feel they were done.

lol, yeah.....I write pretty quickly.
My main CommonApp took me one Saturday, and each 500-word Supplemental took me about 2 hours apiece.

I didn't do it. Because my common app essay was long (1000 words).

Amadeuic-

No, I have not, but my English teacher was bragging about the book and telling us how amazing it was.

Unfortunately, I can only take so much of Joyce in a specified span of time. Maybe I can read that over the summer though!
