Did you get into your "dream school" but not your "safety"?

binx, of course a wait list is not a rejection. But at the schools we visited, they all seemed to state that they were accepting about twice the number of applicants as opennings available, in anticipation that not all who were accepted would attend. This makes it seem much less likely that anyone on a waiting list, at least for clarinet, would get in.

Not necessarily. Students tend to apply to a lot of schools these days and, if they are accepted by more than two on average, there should be places somewhere for those put on waiting lists. There are only a few music schools that have better than 50% yield because the stronger applicants tend to be able to choose from among more than two offers. If most schools only overbook by a factor of two, there will be students coming off the wait list at many of them.

Jazz drumset student. I was accepted to UNT but not UT-Austin…
Pretty good example I think.

tonofclayfin,

I have taken the liberty of adding the UNT acceptance to the thread at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1045522-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2011-a-13.html

I assume you are talking about a BM in Jazz Studies there, so let me know if that is not the case.

^WOOT CLRN8Mom! Congrats and Go Blue (should she choose to! (My son attends the UMich SOM and loves it.)

Thank you BassDad. You are correct.
