Would submitting one be the difference between getting in and not?
I could get my AP Bio teacher to submit one she's written for an internship (She talked about how I took the class as a sophomore and how I pulled through; I'd say it was pretty good)

I did not get an extra letter of rec but I did get a Duke student to write on my behalf to the admissions office. I didn’t even ask lol

Letters of rec are good if they add something to your overall application. My daughter submitted her 2 teacher recs, as well as 2 letters from 2 different summer internships. (One internship was the summer before junior year which she still does occasional work for, and the other from the summer before senior year.) She was accepted to Duke ED.

Is it too late to send a rec letter? I have one, from my boss at my internship. It’s extremely positive, but it was actually me who wrote it. I asked her if she’d write me one for future employment or internships, and she said to write one myself and she edited it and signed it. Apparently bosses do this a lot; my aunt said her boss did the same thing. But would it be really sketchy if I mailed the letter myself?

^I think it is too late since CommonApp said it had to be at their office by 1/2/2013

I thought that in place of an interview we could submit an additional letter of rec…

^It’s not “in place of.”

Both the interview and the additional letter of recommendation are optional.

I had an interview and I also submitted the additional letter of recommendation.
