Didn't disclose ethnicity on Common App... Should I contact admissions to tell them mine?

In my essays, I talked a lot about China and Asia, and I think it might have seemed as though I’m Asian. Much as I dislike Affirmative Action, the fact is that race does play a significant role in admissions. As (East) Asians are at a disadvantage, and I’m white, should I contact admissions to tell them my ethnicity? If so, how would you suggest I do so? Thanks in advance for the help.

Or I don’t want to be possibly discriminated like those interesting Asians I study – I’m only white. Please know this, Princeton!

  1. You're paranoid
  2. Go right ahead and tell them you're white. I think if you feel so strongly that you want to distance yourself, you should do so.

SMH

Let’s be honest, Affirmative Action does have a significant effect. I’m against it, as I am discrimination in any form, and I don’t want to be discriminated against… What’s wrong with that?

Back to my 1st point – the anti-Asian bias is very debatable here on CC and elsewhere. I see no discrimination vs. Asian Americans at schools like Princeton per se. I see lots of discrimination against “boring” applicants at schools like Princeton. Thus, your goal is not to be in the “boring” pile – not the “Asian American” pile. That’s my take on things at least.

I’m not sure how this would change anything. Both whites and Asians are the dominant races at Princeton, so it won’t make a difference.

I think this is a nonissue and that you don’t need to contact the Admissions Office. You won’t get rejected because you’re Asian or White, and at the same time, you won’t necessarily be accepted because you’re a URM. Case in point, me when I applied ED to Columbia University (and I’m a URM) - I was deferred.

As long as you’re qualified and unique, you have a shot. I think people are overestimating race in this admissions process.

If you didn’t put it, and they say your application is complete, WHY for the love of all things on this Earth would you rock the boat?

Why?

I know PLENTY of Asians who got into great schools, and some who were rejected. Not one whined about being Asian and therefore that is the ONLY reason they were rejected.

Some folks post things like “I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT ONLY 13 INDIANS WERE ACCEPTED BY HARVARD LAST YEAR!!!”. Like they are “in” with the adcom of Harvard and the adcom of Harvard would actually not only keep that stat but someone would tell a random stranger / distant relative.

Don’t do anything unless you are asked to do it. They will email you, if they haven’t yet, to confirm your application is complete.

Okay, thanks for the help everyone
