So I thought the “why Tulane” essay was for the honors college and I already applied to a lot of other colleges for honors so at the time I didn’t do it. But it turns out it wasn’t for honors and doing it is highly recommended.
I applied EA (which idk if that helps show I would go to the school)
GPA: 3.97 (Unweighted)
ACT: 32
Great ECs and great essay (common app)
Yes, people get accepted without doing the Why Tulane, and in your case you have stats that match Tulane well without being “Ivy level” (no offense). But actually, if I were you I would sit down and write a Why Tulane statement tonight, if you can do one that isn’t cliche but speaks to why you really would want to attend Tulane if accepted. Then send that to your admissions person with the preface saying exactly what you said, that you somehow got it in your mind that “optional” meant if you wanted to be considered for the honors program (it isn’t an honors college, and yes there is a big difference. Tulane in and of itself is essentially an honors college when you consider the average stats). Nothing to be embarrassed about, and they will consider it. Depends on how serious you are about Tulane. I can tell you that with those stats, you are looking at a very nice scholarship offer if accepted.
@fallenchemist- Great advice!
@TomS31415. It is not too late to submit the “Why Tulane” essay while explaining your confusion, but send it pronto! And do make sure that your essay is very specific and doesn’t sound like a last-minute after-thought (even if it was!).
