Difference b/w college experience as a transfer or a freshman?

I'm still debating whether I should attend UCI or start off at a community college and transfer to UCLA.

My question is how are the experiences different for a transfer as opposed to a freshman entering UCLA?

I know that by the 3rd year most of the freshmen have met their friends and are now living in apartments. So would you say transfers in general, have less time to experience new things and build close relationships with professors&students? How do transfers get accustomed to the life at a new university?

ny feedback from UCLA transfers or any other transfers would be greatly appreciated!

I also heard UCLA has special transfer dorms..?

Why not attend UCI and then transfer from there to UCLA if you're truly unhappy? Also, you can transfer after only one year (I'm doing it). It will be easier to make friends as an incoming sophomore -- you're closer in age to the incoming freshmen, so even if the people in your class already have their "groups" you can always hang out with the freshmen.

ok. my sis did the whole CC then transfer to UCLA thing. I don't think there are special transfer dorms, she lives with regular students who entered UCLA as freshman. She had a rough time in the beginning as she didn't really know anyone, and she found herself competing against students already familiar with the system/ campus / dorm life. It was also hard for her to find a group of friends in teh beginning, but now she does have her own circle of friends; the other students don't treat her differently at all because she's a transfer student. It was really overwhelming at first, because it seemed like everyone around her was on top of things while she was still figuring the school out, but in the end she's comfortable on the campus.

well I live really close to UCI and I don't get financial aid so OCC seemed like the right thing to do. UCLA is also my dream school and I would say I was a competitive applicant, not the best but I was right there with some of the other admits at my school so hopefully the chances I'll get in as a transfer will be higher. Any other experiences that people have had transferring?

Transferring from UC to UC (especially from a lower to a higher) is generally harder than transferring from a CC to a UC. I think the reason is that it's easier to get a 3.6+ in a CC, and CCs have an agreement with the UC system for transferring. I think it helps the economy if more students go to junior colleges and then transfer, or something.

Also, you should look up the transferring policy for the UCs for a first year student, because from what I know--which isn't that much as I am not too keen on the transferring process--you can only transfer entering your third year. Again, I am not totally certain.
