Difference between all these diff. invites?

There seem to be a variety of invites getting sent out. There's University Day, CAS Reception and Sunday at the Square. What's the difference? Are all of these "likely" letters?

Yes. The DEANs is the best of the best of the best. Sunday at the Squares are your "outstanding" students, CAS reception is next i think? and university day. all are great to get, but just because you didnt get one, i dont think means that you will get rejected.

Is the CAS Reception only applicable to College of Arts and Sciences applicants? If you have received one of these invitations, does this mean you have a strong change of getting accepted? I applied to the Steinhardt School of Education and received a University Day Reception invitation. When I called the admissions officer, she stated that this meant that "I should feel confident about the admissions decision." What does this all mean?!?!

There has not been one case of a student getting one of these and not being admitted.

I got the University Day one. It's lower than Sunday at the Square I suppose? Hey, as long as I'm assured my official acceptance, I'll be very content! I was shocked I got an invite at all - so I suppose University day must be the lowest one.

Stats:
SAT I: 1340
SAT IIs: 720/730/740
GPA: 4.0

Bronx native - that counts against me too, as people tell me.

Sunday at the Square is for top people. University Day is just for those who will get accepted...not the top of the applicant pool. If you got any of these invites...you are getting in.

I just got off the phone with an admissions officer. She said that "University Day is a reception for admitted students." She also said that they send them out before acceptances so that people can make travel arrangements if they don't live near the city. Apparently if you received one of these, you can "expect good news in the mail on Friday."

What about the CAS Reception? Is that a guaranteed admission? Doesn't seem like too many people have gotten them.

"I just got off the phone with an admissions officer. She said that "University Day is a reception for admitted students.""

Is this to say that if you didn't get one, that you are not getting accepted? Or is University Day for the second to best applicants? Have enough people received University Day invites for it to be all the acceptances?
Conclusion: Ahhh, crap.

"What about the CAS Reception? Is that a guaranteed admission? Doesn't seem like too many people have gotten them."

i don't know if these reception invites are guaranteed admission or not, some people say yes, some say no, some say maybe...purely guessing, i think that
if it's 9 days after we get our official acceptance/rejection letters, it has to be for accepted students, because who would go if they got rejected?

i do know that all the schools are having a university day reception on april 10, and i believe it is more or less the same as any other school's reception (steinhardt, stern, tisch, gallatin, etc...even GSPs!) and basically a tier down from sunday @ the square (which ALL the schools are having on april 3, except for tisch, who hosts a saturday at the square on the 2nd), which is, as i have been hearing, right below meeting with the dean...the invitations for each event are the same, just with whichever school on it, again including GSPs

i doubt they would send invites to ALL of the applicants, for the simple reason that there's just too many, but i could be wrong, don't swear by my word :)

so a university day invite is a step (albeit a small one) above regular acceptance...?

i'm assuming so, and the general concensus on these boards is so also, so i guess we can cross our fingers and wait out the final days 8D
