<p>My first choice school has Industrial Engineering and my second choice has Industrial Engineering Technology. What's the difference between the two and is it a big enough difference that one major lead to higher paying jobs?</p>
<p>[Industrial</a> Engineering Technicians](<a href=“http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes173026.htm]Industrial”>http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes173026.htm)
Vs.
[Industrial</a> Engineers](<a href=“http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes172112.htm]Industrial”>http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes172112.htm)</p>
<p>Pay wise, you can see that IET’s middle 50% sits at ~$51K/year where as IE’s mid 50% is at ~$79K/year.</p>
<p>The difference is described here:</p>

<p>Thanks a lot, I get the picture now.</p>
You made a pretty common mistake. Engineer technologist are commonly misunderstood as technicians. Most technicians only have an associates degree while technologist can have a Bachelors or Masters. So typically, the pay for a technologist is better than the pay for a technician. Starting salaries for a technologist can range from $30,000-$80,000. All just depends on the cards you’re dealt.
As with anything on the Internet take everyone else’s comments with a grain of salt.
That being said…
I actually have experience graduating in Industrial Engineering TECHNOLOGY and I can tell you there are many factors that made me get a $100,000+ job starting right out of college over industrial engineering graduates. If you just go to class and graduate with a degree and do LITERALLY nothing else then yes you will not get paid as much as an industrial engineer.
Luckily I realized this before I graduated and I’d like to pass this on: It really isn’t all about your major or degree, it’s about what you DID and what you’ve MADE outside of class. Graduating is not that big of a feat anymore.
Display ruthless animosity to be the best in that field or you’re just wasting your life.

This is an old thread. Please don’t reboot it.
