Difference between IS and MIS?

<p>I was wondering if there is any difference between Information systems and Management information systems with respect to courses and jobs after graduation.
Again, where does computer science/computer engg come into the picture interms of jobs after the respective courses?
Does any one know?</p>

<p>there is a stronger business component in MIS…it’ll earn you a lot more money, but it should be much harder</p>

I actually forgot to mention that I was talking about Graduate degrees(Master’s programs). Hope the ‘rule’ remains the same</p>

<p>Still the same applies. Quite a few M.S. in MIS programs are 36 or 39 credits (12 to 13 courses) because you have to fit in the Accounting, Finance and Management courses along with the actual IS/IT coursework. Also it MAY be possible that you need a GMAT instead of a GRE for MIS.</p>

Yes, my IS course(the one that I’m looking at) is 36 credits but does not have accounting/finance courses. It has one course that is Management Information systems. Rest are IS/IT related.And, some schools have their IS program housed in the school of business because of which they require GMAT and not GRE. Also, if the program is in Engg dept/science, even then smetimes they do accept GMAT scores instead of GRE.</p>
