Difference between MS and PhD

Hi!!

I am an international student. I am still a freshman at college.

I am doing a dual degree (engineering and business) in college and I just want to know what is the difference between Mtech/MS (i am not sure what they call it, but i am refering to a post grad program in engineering) and PhD programs. Do Mtech programs concentrate a lot on career or research??

Do Mtech programs offer a significant career edge? Note that I am more interested in business careers rather than research oriented ones. So in this set up will a MTech degree give my career some significant boost?

So if i finish my undergrad with a degree in computer engineering and business and say I get a job with 50k salary. Will doing a Mtech program later raise that salary to say 75k or 100k??

Also I have no plans of doing research or beocming a professor. So PhD is definitely out of question. I am just confused about whether I have to go for a MTech degree later

Also most of the threads in this forum seem to be oriented towards admisiion to PhD programs. What are the criteria of a good application for Mtech programs?

Can you please add on to this list -

GPA
Undergraduate research/papers
Stellar letters of recommendation
internships related to research
(is post-grad work experience required like for mba programs)

what more??

Hmm...I don't think a $25-50K difference is realistic. I always thought after a acquiring a Master's degree, your starting salary goes up by $10K, but your earning potential is higher. In the long run, it's a good investment.
