Differences in GPA scale

Hey, guys! In my school, a 93-96% is considered an A and equates to a 3.8. I've heard that in other schools an A is a 4.0 (in our school, a 4.0 is an A+ and is a 97% average). I currently have a 3.9 unweighted and a 4.2 weighted GPA. My question is whether colleges will take my school's relatively out of the ordinary grading scale into consideration when comparing my GPA to other candidates whose school translates a 94% to a 4.0, for example.
Thanks in advance. :)

Colleges are used to evaluating a wide range of grading scales. That’s why along with your transcript a copy of your HS Profile is sent which includes your grading policy.

Ask your guidance counselor for a copy of your school profile. It should contain the info the Ad Coms need to evaluate your GPA within the context of your school’s grading system.

My D’s school had a panel of 17 adcoms from colleges of many different levels, including 2 ivies. ALL stated that they recalculated GPA’s according to their policies. No one gave specifics, although some mentioned only using core courses, some calculated with and without freshman grades. Our school does not weight or rank. The adcoms said they start with UW and weight according to their standards.

They just kept reiterating: rigor, appropriate challenge, follow passions and interests
