Hey guys,

I'm going to be a sophomore this coming school year here at the UW. I lived in a dorm and did all that fun stuff my first year, but I will be living off-campus next year with a few good friends, about a 5 min bus ride from campus. I have a bad feeling that my social life will be worse because I won't be surrounded by a community of people all the time?? I know your social life is what you make of it but I have this weird feeling. Anyway, what's to expect when making this transition? In terms of social life/living situation/anything really.

just wondering,
is it normal for sophomores to live on campus? thanks. sorry if i didn’t answer your question, but i’m only a high school senior.

I am a senior and living on campus, but then again - I’m also much older then most undergrads so I know I am outside of the norm :)

Honestly though, I’ve had a few junior/senior 20/21 year old friends living on campus in steven’s court

Yeah it’s definitely normal for sophomores to live on campus. Both of my roommates from my freshman year are going to stay on campus for next year. So can anyone answer my original question? lol

Parent, here. My friend’s daughter moved off campus as a sophomore and had no problems maintaining a healthy social life. We went on a UW tour yesterday, and the guide mentioned that she has always been a commuter. I specifically asked her how that had impacted her social life. She said that she made sure to join/create study groups in her classes. That was a means to making new friends who she would then socialize with in other ways (ie outside of studying). Hope that helps :)

I wouldn’t worry about it. I lived off-campus my sophomore year and I preferred it because I could have friends over and not only have space to hang out/study/whatever but also not have to worry about noise violations.
