Therapeutic boarding schools in the wilderness have an “adventure therapy” component. Sure you are closely watched and your shoes might be taken away at night but there are plans during the week for mountain climbing and kayaking. Like this one. http://www.bouldercreekacademy.com/about-us/
Cheddar- You are confusing a therapeutic boarding school with a wilderness program. The wilderness programs are often referred to as “the ambulance that gets you where you need to go”. They are short-term (usually 3-9 weeks) programs that are extremely rigid and completely remove the kid from the comforts of his environment. They hike and live in the outdoors, but at the main therapeutic wilderness programs there is not much in the way of kayaking. I have some experience in this area.
