i dont understand something. for example, harvard has different schools, like the school of business, school of medicine etc. If i apply to harvard, am i also applying to the school of business per say? or is the school of business where i go after i complete my prerequisites, sort of like graduate school?

At Harvard, I believe that undergraduates apply only to the College. Lots of the Schools (like Business) don’t serve undergrads.

However, you shouldn’t generalize from this to other Universities. For example, at Cornell undergrads can apply to one of several schools (which they call “Colleges”) - Agriculture and Life Sciences, Engineering, Hotel Administration, etc.

so how should i know if i should only apply to the university or also to their college of business too?

It will be very clear when you are filling out the applications. They’ll either ask you to list your preferred majors (in which case you’re applying to just a general college) or they’ll ask you to list your preferred SCHOOLS (in which case you’re applying to a specific school in the college).
