When I apply for a university, am I applying for the university as a whole or a specific school? For instance, do I apply to Harvard or Harvard School of Law?

So if I apply to CMU instead of the CMU Comp Sci program, does it still look as good on my resume?

Every college is different. Read the applications. Seriously. They make it very easy, and you're not going to apply to the wrong place unless you can't read.

You should do some more research. I too had to do a lot of research. At first, I thought every university had a school of business. Wrong! Most ivies just have economics for undergraduate.

For Harvard, if you're an undergrad student (assuming you are), you will apply to Harvard College. Harvard School of Law is graduate only. Make sure you look thoroughly at each university to become familiar with the campus history, colleges, and other things. It'll help you on your essay, and you'll realize whether you truly want to go there.
