Difficulty of Beginning Mandarin I?

Hi guys,

This fall I will be a freshmen at Cornell. I always wanted to learn mandarin and college seems like the perfect place to do it. My only wonder is, how tough is it going to be to keep up four years of study in chinese, while also completing studies in my major, government?

In short, how rough is the course Beginning Mandarin I, without having any background in the language and while taking other strong courses in the social sciences during a first semester at Cornell?

Your feedback will be strongly appreciated ;)

Thanks in advance

Hey, I’m also going to register for Chin 1101 :)

It’s a 6 credit course and supposed to be pretty intense, but Mandarin is a great language to learn these days and you sound like you already have the drive for it. Everyone in the class will be going through similar difficulties, so we can find comfort in that too.

There’s some more info here, with last year’s syllabus: [Beginning Mandarin I & II - Department of Asian Studies](http://lrc.cornell.edu/asian/courses/ch/chin101)
