Difficulty of College of Arts and Sciences

Hey everyone, i was just wondering if any current NYU students could

elaborate on the CAS curriculm for freshmen and sophmores. Would anyone

characterize the curriculm as extremely stressful and impossible to recieve

A's ? I only ask this because people say that CAS is really not that hard but i

find this too good to be true. What do you all think?

Ace:

The CAS core curriculum is called MAP (Morse Academic Plan). MAP courses are in many different liberal arts areas, and there is also a foreign language, and math/science requirement. NYU freshmen are also have an expository writing requirement. There are also Freshman Honors Seminars which many CAS freshman choose to take, and these are small seminar courses with a senior faculty member in that faculty's member's niche area.

How easy it is to get an "A" really depends on the student and the prof. Unlike Stern, CAS does not have a mandatory curve. I'm only in my first semester here, but CAS does seem to a have a decent amount of grade inflation from what I've heard, so that's a very good thing, though I don't think you'll be able to pull a 4.0 if you go out drinking 5 nights a week.

More about the CAS core, i.e. MAP:

ahh thank you very much!
