Difficulty of SAT II Biology E/M and Curves

So just want to get a consensus on how hard CC'ers thought that test was and what the curve might potentially look like. Personally, I felt the knowledge retention question were fairly simplistic but the graph and overabundance of genetics was killer.

Difficulty

Very Easy:
Easy-Medium:
Medium:
Medium-Hard: 1
Very Hard:

Curve Prediction: -5/6 = 800

when you say curve prediction…are you counting with penalties or not?

Yes with penalties.

I don’t know what I’m comparing it to, but I’d say Medium

I don’t think the non-E/M questions were easy either. I personally thought E was really very specific.

^^isn’t the curve for bio usually -8 to -6 raw score? so(i forget if bio is 60 or 80 questions) a 54/74 should be good for an 800

Whoa do you guys really think the curve would be -5 or -6 for an 800? I mean that would be amazing but in both the PR book, the official cb book, and sparknotes, its pretty much -2 for an 800 is the max

^ that scares me lol

Yeah, at this point I’m at like 71/80 which translates to like 730 =[

ouch, its THAT harsh? i feel like it might change this year, because what meadow said about the graph questions is very true. i feel like 5-6 wold be fair for an 800, lets hope the nation effed up this test

Yeah it looks pretty harsh… -3 would be nice but i think -5/-6 is pushing it too far lol. i guess its better to set your mind on a harsh curve and be surprised if its lenient than hope for a lenient curve and be disappointed if its harsh lol

How many of you guys feel like you’re going to retake it in October at this point?

Compared to the practice tests I took I’d say medium-hard. A lot of the questions could have been interpreted to get two answers and the pth graph threw a LOT of people off. I’d say a raw score of around 75 is an 800.

Actually in another Official CB practice test from a couple years back which I thought was a lot similar to this test in terms of the graph question perhaps even easier, had a curve -7=800. The Barrons, Kaplans, and Sparknotes to me, were significanty easier, and much less confusing, and far more straightforward. So I don’t think my curve prediction is unreasonable.

I might retake or maybe cancel. I’m not sure at this point.

wait, are the E and M curves that different?

I’m a freshman in high school, and I haven’t taken any high level Bio courses, and took Molecular… I hope the curve isn’t TOO harsh, those graphs were difficult. :(

Not much. What I heard was that a raw score of -3 is the worst you could do for an 800. But who knows what they do for the real exam.

I thought the test was pretty difficult… on a scale of 1-10 probably a 7 or 8. Definitely much harder than the practice tests available in the Barrons and Princeton Rev. books as well as the tests on Sparknotes. I took the M by the way, after seeing how specific the first couple of questions were on the E exam. I hope the curve is good… I’m already down to a 74/80 as far as I know!

You’re still in the 750+ range so nothing to worry about.

I really hope that the curve is lenient, it it’s -2 for an 800, there is no way I’m getting it =(
