I’ve experimented a bit with some digital stuff over the past year and wondered whether to include some of it in my portfolio I’m sending to the schools I’m applying to, which currently consists of oil paintings and pencil drawings.
My digital art is definitely worse than my traditional stuff because I’ve been working with traditional material for a much longer time, but I was hoping that adding a piece or two would help show how I’m willing to try something new, and possibly make my portfolio stand out.
However, since I’m (pretty sure) all the schools don’t offer digital art courses, I’m kind of worried it would actually work against my favor. Any thoughts?
Our DC also does a good deal of visual art, and has been weighing whether to include digital art in the portfolio. I don’t know which schools you are applying to, but many schools do have digital art classes in their visual arts options. May want to verify, and it could be worth including one or two digital pieces either way.
@swparenting thanks for the response! Maybe there are digital art classes and I just never noticed? I guess I’ll go check, but I probably will put some pieces in my portfolio then.
FWIW - a couple of years we applied to a variety of schools with several of them having their own (unique) ways of submitting artwork. A couple of schools wanted to see a variety of art forms. We did submit digital artwork on a dedicated platform - some schools had a platform that required us to also pay a small fee for this.
