DIII Athlete Transfer Process

Hi there, I am a varsity athlete at a middle-of-the-pack Nescac school. I am interested in transferring to an upper level nescac (williams, midd, amherst) or an ivy (probably dartmouth). What should I do to maximize my chances in admissions? I am familiar with the slots/bands process at the nescacs, and I assume the same thing is in place at Dartmouth. I would be a contributor to each of these team’s varsity squads, but not the star athlete. I am a freshman now, planning to transfer at the end of my sophomore year. My high school tests scores were good enough for an athlete I believe (2100 and 32 ACT).

Could a coach at Williams, Middlebury, Amherst, or Dartmouth “slot” me in admissions? According to the Common Data Set these schools only accept about 10% of applicants. Would my best bet be to continue to improve athletically as best I can, get a release from my coach, contact other schools’ coaches about transferring, and try to get a coach to slot me in admissions? Could a coach do that, or would I need to get in on academics alone?

Thank you!

Also, my sport is one that uses purely objective measurements to define how good you are, i.e. times. Based off my times a coach would know just how well I would fit in on his/her team.
