DIII recruiting

I'd like to get some insight into DIII recruting.

My S: 2220 SAT, 4.67 GPA. Good enough to get admitted to most DIIIs on his own, but clearly a crapshoot for the better DIIIs, as no one is a slam dunk. He is good enough to play tennis at all DIII schools; not good enough for DI, including Ivies. There are some DIIIs where he is lower down on the recruit list (of course, these are the ones he is interested in), and there are tons that are sending him letters. He is a senior in HS, but is taking next year off, and will be entering college in the fall of 2013. So he is effectively a jr, but has the advantage of being able to talk to coaches for a few months when other kids can't. We have talked to a few coaches, and his local coach is very well known and is going to start to help on his behalf.

Questions:

(1) General advice on the best way to go about this?

(2) How does the admit process work? For instance, let's say we have a coach that says he wants him in early July. Do we send in his transcript to the admissions office and they say, yeah he's good enough to get in? How much pressure do the coaches put on you; for instance, does coach A say, I can help you get in, but if I do that I need you to accept right away?

(3) Then how does the FA game work? So, let's say he gets into school A. They give him a package but I think we do better. Then he gets into B with better package, but we want A. Can we go back to A and negotiate?

There are a lot of posts/threads on this topic. I suggest you search this forum with “D3 recruiting” Many of the frequent posters(myself included) have summarized the process in previous posts. Good luck!
