Hey there so I am a junior (female) that runs indoor/outdoor track and cross country at my school and my times have been improving quite a bit. So, I was wondering if anyone knew whether my times are good enough to try and run at a DIII school.
5K xc: 20:46
1600: 5:49
3200: 12:42 (not my preferred race)
Your times might not quite be there yet, but character and attitude count for a lot, too. Keep working and reach out to some coaches to let them know of your interest.
What are your grades/test scores? There are definitely d3 schools that you could run at, but we also need to know what kind of schools you are looking for.
You can also go on TFRRS.com and see how your times compare with schools that you are interested in. For reference, your 5k converts to about 25 minutes in the 6k.
Perhaps a better way to compare yourself and your times with the athletes at the schools you are interested in is to go to that colleges website and check out their current roster. Copy and paste the name of their freshmen runners to the website of www.athletic.net or www.milesplit.com. Write down their PR’s in the 800, 1600, 3200, 3 mile and 5k in XC and see how you stack up. If your times are in the same range in high school it will give you a very good indication if you are a good fit at that college in terms of running times. Of course other factors such as GPA, test scores and EC’s will also be important. TFRRS only show college times and a lot can happen to kids (good and bad) once they get to college.
