We are in a catch-22; our child secured a position in GHP (Governor’s Honor Program, Ga) in Social studies and also obtained a spot in Stanford Summer pre-collegiate institute for Artificial Intelligence. GHP is fully funded 4 weeks course and for Stanford Summer pre-collegiate institute we have to shell out $ 7000/- from our pockets. Any suggestions on which to choose…

Social studies seems very different from AI.

Which does he want to attend? Which is a better match? Can you afford it?

Also, my understanding is that these Stanford programs have practically no impact on admissions if one attends. Of course if your son does a bunch of other AI work etc and this is just one of many things he does in that area, then it may help as a bigger piece of the puzzle.

Yes and both subjects interests him. He does not know what he wants. He wants to attend GHP because his friends also got in and they will have good time there. But he is also thinking about AI because he has won science fair this year. He can afford it because he won $ 5000/- for developing an app for a leading phone company. We will fund the rest. Thx for your response.

based on that, I would lean towards Stanford. He has an interest in the topic, did great at a science fair, money not an issue, and Stanford is great. The summer is long enough that he can find plenty of time to have a good time with his friends.
Just my 2 cents.

thx for your input

My D will be attending a similar computer science class. She previously attended a Duke TIP program which was very good, but they did not offer a class she was interested in this summer. So we expanded our search nationwide and she is excited to be going to the Stanford program this summer. She is thinking about applying to California universities so we thought this would be a good introduction.

That’s nice. Which course did she get in?
