Dilemma, HELP

<p>Hey guys,</p>

<p>not sure if this question can be answered, but I'm currently a freshman at UCI, and I was in a dilemma whether I should live in an off-campus ap't approx 1-2 miles away (5 people 2bed/2bath ~360/mo + utilities, unfurnished) or live on an on-campus house, (Double, $550/mo furnished), shuttle comes every 7 min.</p>

<p>My main question is: How will my financial aid be impacted? I mean, I'll be receiving the Cal Grant A that should cover tuition (~10k), there is book expense (~2-3k), etc. </p>

<p>I heard that fin.aid packages differ when student elect to live off-campus ap't, or on-campus.</p>

<p>Assuming I have an EFC of about 1.5k, do you think I will be receiving my pell + UCI grant? If I elect to live in the cheaper-off campus?</p>

<p>Last year, I received the CAL, PELL, & ~3K from UCI grant, and roughly $9,000 in loans. COA was ~$25,000.</p>

<p>You need to contact the UCI financial aid office – or check the web site to see if that info is already published online. Different colleges will handle it differently.</p>

<p>There may be a small reduction in room/board for off campus but you’re not getting your full need met anyway. Pell will not be affected by this, and I doubt your Cal grant would either. Call FA and ask about their grants!</p>
