Hey guys! I’m an 8th grader. I just received my test results from this private school I applied to. I just found out that despite my scholarship, I still have to pay $4000 for tuition. My family is low income middle class, so 4000 dollars is hard to find. It’s that or a low performing charter school. I’m only going to a high school for freshman year before applying to a public boarding school for sophomore year. So I have a dilemma; should I go to the private school at the expense of 4000 dollars or just go to the public charter school? It’s not like people from that charter school never send kids to the boarding school I talked about.
Here’s more info:
Charter School:
- Has 500 students, mostly African American
- Most students are low income
- Avergage ACT is I believe 17
- Has like 6 Clubs
- It’s relatively new; first graduating class graduated last year.
- Sent 3 kids to the boarding school
- It’s 8 a.m to 5 p.m where u take 8 classes
- Graduate class last year; two got to Columbia Univeristy, one to Cornell and Duke, and one to Princeton
Private School:
1.Catholic school
2. You take 6 classes including a mandatory Theology course
3. Diverse; half white and half black
4. more classes, more clubs, more opportunities
5. one graduate from the 2013 batch got into Harvard, last year’s top ten didn’t get into any ivy league
6. average act is 24 or 25
7. best sports and band program (im not into those)
8. Sent like 8 kids or 6 to the boarding school
As I said before, my real destination is the boarding school. But I’m torn between the private and charter school to attend for freshman year. Which should I pick?
