Today I was accepted into Bentley College and they offered me a 1/2 tuition President's Scholar scholarship, for about $16,000 a year. I was overjoyed until I read that I had to send in my $500 by January 22, 2007 to be eligible for the scholarship. They probably meant to put 2008... but that's not as important.

I think there would definitely be a good chance that I'd go if I had time to hear from other colleges and visit Bentley...

So you get a great scholarship if you send them $500 by Tuesday and you haven't heard from other schools yet. If it isn't refundable, that sounds completely unethical.

Why is that unethical? Either the OP is sure that he wants the scholarship or he isn't. If he is not sure, then the school has every right to withdraw its offer and move on to someone else.

Freestyla, I am sorry to see this happened to you. Two years ago my son was also accepted to Bentely with a merit scholarship. We got a similar letter. I did not know what to do, so I contacted his Bentley admission's counselor. She was very nice and double checked with people at the school. She called back and told us that we did have until May 1 to decide. They sent out a follow up letter to apologize for the typo and stated that our son had until May 1 to make up his mind. I am sorry to see this happened again to you.

northeastmom,Does your son go to Bentley now. Would you tell me more about Bentley, eg, quality of educaton, ....
. My D is accepted by Bentley too . I need more info to make a decision. Thanks.
