While I was taking the math section of the ACT, I marked a line on each bubble instead of filling it all in. I was going to use the remaining time at the end of the section to fill them all completely in, but I messed up on time management and ended up running out of time before I could do that. All my bubbles on the math section of the answer sheet just had lines through them and I realized I was going to get a zero, so I asked the proctor if I could fill the bubbles in more completely and said said no. I filled them in anyways. The proctor found out and said she was probably going to void the test. I know I broke the rules, but I had nothing to lose because if I had just turned in unfilled bubbles, I was going to cancel my scores anyways. What would you guys have done if you had a bunch of line marked bubbles?
It is funny that you say that because I was in a similar situation. I ran out of time and forgot to transfer my answers (at least ten in the math section)… To be honest if I knew I wouldn’t have gotten caught I would have done the same thing. Instead through the reading and science section all I could think about is how many points I lost on questions I probably got right. I was so distracted. I know we shouldn’t cheat, but we are human. In my particular case I didn’t- not because I am an honest person, but because I was terrified of the repercussions. I am ashamed of it, but I really think this competition in getting really high scores facilitates cheating. Good luck to you.
At least now you know that using inane tricks to be quicker doesn’t save enough time to make a difference… You’ll be better prepared for the next test.
Don’t get your hopes down. You have the next test, and will probably get a higher score from it then this test had you filled in the bubbles. Good luck!
There is nothing you can do about it now, OP. Wait and see if the test is actually voided. And yes, next time bubble in the answers by page on the Math section.
The machine probably picked up just the lines. I once made a small stay mark on bubble of a scantron sheet for a school exam. The machine picked it up and thought I had actually filled in the bubble.
