Dining alone

How often do people eat by themselves and is it something people will look down and care?

nope, i know i wouldn't

eating alone isn't that big of a deal...sometimes I would eat alone if I was doing some last minute homework or trying to eat quickly.

but if you are not eating alont by choice, then you can always go up to people and introduce yourself and join them. in the beginning of the school year people haven't really formed cliques, so just joining a table is really easy to do.

umm.. not really.

Not uncommon, especially at breakfast or during off-ish hours. People typically have a newspaper, book, or homework. I can't imagine anyone thinking much of it. But I agree with hotpiece...take advantage of your first few weeks to sit down with strangers. It's a good way to meet people, and the best possible time in college for doing so.

Yeah, I eat alone sometimes. It's usually right before a class to do last minute stuff, i.e. homework/preparing for a presentation. If not that, I'll just have my iPod on and a book. Eating alone isn't really looked down upon though. You'll notice A LOT of students do so.

If I'm eating alone I'll usually take it back to my room or outside if the weather is nice, and I'll usually take a book if I'll be eating in a cafeteria alone. Then again I don't eat alone very often (cereal in the morning, sandwich for lunch most days, and dinner with friends almost always.)

Eating alone is not a big deal. In fact you'll probably see plenty of other people eating alone. If you feel self-conscious about it just bring something to do, like homework, or an mp3 player.

Plenty of people eat alone. I don't...I just can't do it. There's nothing wrong with it, though, and most people don't think anything of it.

There are also tables that resemble high school ones, though...because most of the people at those sat together in high school as well and just haven't grown up and branched out any. It's way more sad to be sitting at one of those than to be sitting by yourself. Just saying.

most of time,I eat alone.
I feel comfortable with it.

Actually,no one else will even pay attention to you,no one else will notice you are eating alone.

i'm always eating alone. i actually like it. it's my alone time. sometimes people come up to me and ask if they can join me while i'm eating alone. bingo! there comes a new friend.

Are you serious? Have you never gone to a coffee shop or a fast food joint to eat by yourself? It's just like that.

my D is terrified right now of going to cafeteria alone. I just discovered she has only eaten one meal since monday at the dining hall. For some it is a very scary process.....

You can try what I do. Sometimes I leave a piece of cake across from me as friend bait.
