Dining Hall Question

Hey Noles,
I have a question about the dining halls and the "to go" box options. If you buy a to-go box and pay for lunch, does the dining hall hold your ID with a time stamp like some schools or are you free to go in, fill your box, and leave?
Is it possible to eat in and then take your to go box too?
thanks!

Well it’s been 2 years since I’ve eaten in the dining halls, but I’ll tell you how it was when I was there. They swipe your ID (you get to keep it) and you take a box to fill as you please. You aren’t supposed to eat in AND have a to-go box, so you will get in trouble if they see you sitting down eating with a box.

By trouble, I mean they’ll probably tell you to leave. Also, if you’re eating in and plan to take ANY food out…bring a bag and put it in there. My old roomie once had a scone in her pocket and the lady saw it as she was leaving the dining hall and made her throw it in the trash (definitely not a waste!).

Thanks. I’ve slipped out with apples and cookies, but just wondered if anyone had actually eaten in and then taken out too. Not that I’m trying to steal food or anything, of course ;)

Yeah, if anyone sees you dining in while you have a to-go box, you’ll be asked to turn in your to-go box. If you want to do both, they can swipe your FSUID twice- once when you go in, and then again when you want the to-go box.

You’re also allowed to take out fresh fruit (or at least, I remember it being okay to take out a piece of fresh fruit whether you had a to-go box or not).
