MIT is putting on a dinner for admitted students and their parents tonight in our state. Has this been done elsewhere already? Is any pertinent info disseminated or is it pretty much a recruiting thing?

I'm going to mine :)

It's just a way for you to meet up with your ECs and future students :o

we just had a little reception thing at this MIT alum's GIANT MANSION. i think they chose his house to show taht if we go to MIT, we can be rich like him....O.o

hey irock1ce, did i meet you at the lafayette party?

how many students usually go to the reception meeting thing. What does everyone do? Is it just a discussion or what?

we had a local reception thing with cookies and lemonade at a companiy's offices (no dinner or mansion). There were 8 local acceptees with parents, about 3-4 current students home on spring break, and 3-4 alumni. It was nice, but not a big deal at all. People milled around and chit chatted. Then everyone sat down and introduced themselves. The alums and current students gave some general comments about MIT and answered questions.

We had a shindig similar to texas137's. It was at an EC's house, and everyone just milled around, cloistered in groups, and some migrated from group to group. No big mansion or anything, just a really nice house in a really nice neighborhood. I wondered why nobody touched the pool table.

Aww.. a mansion? Our reception was more humble, in fact it was very much like texas 137's reception. Yet, it was also quite informative for me since there were alumns who majored in some fields of my interest.

mine is 100 miles away...CPW will be my party!!

It tuned out quite enjoyable for all. The dinner was in a huge reserved room in a restaurant called the Spaghetti Factory in downtown Denver. It appeared to be an old renovated train station. There were quite a few alumni there along with 10 admitted students and their parents. Professor Shaoul Ezekiel (Ziggy) of MIT flew in especially for the dinner and gave >1 hour lecture on laser theory...he was a trip!

Frankenchris: only 100 miles? I thought KC was farther than that. It's 3 hours from where I live, and I'm 60 miles north of where you live. I think you're using a bit of understatement, lol. But I'm not going either. haha.
