Direct Hit

Should I only buy the new 2010 versions or should I buy the old versions or both? What are the differences? Thanks.

Buy the new versions of both they have new words and examples in them. combined the old versions have 365 words while the new ones have 400. They are excellent books and many of the words actually do show up on the sat

Does anyone know how many versions there are of Direct Hits? I know there is more of the simplistic words and then the more complex words in another book, but what are these different versions? Anyway, OP, I definitely think it’s a good idea to purchase them. I plan on doing the same:)

The second edition of the DH books just came out and looks like it has around 35 new words added.

The words in the first volume (core vocabulary) are not the easy words. It says in the chapter 1 intro that they show up with the most frequency and are level 3-4 in difficulty. Wry (which appeared on a couple of SATs last year and on the Oct. 09 SAT and Wed. 09 PSAT), antithesis, prattle and rustic are all in volume 1. My sons found that more of the obscure, difficult words like toady (last year), halcyon and elan were in volume 2.

You should get both volumes of DH and if possible, get the 2010 version. It has updated examples, and as others have said, more words.
