Out of curiosity, how many vocabulary words are in Direct Hits Volume I? Volume II? Total?

About 200 each.

Each book contains 200 words.Total 400 words.

You will probably have 450 words total. There are 200 #'s in each volume, but some of the #'s have multiple words.

In some of the definitions I pick up a new word.

^

There are actually 412 words exactly.

There are definitely more than 412 words between the two books.

I’m pretty sure there is quite a bit more than 412 words, at least in the 2010 editions.

^

Nope, I was referring to the 2010 editions when I said that there were 412 words.

Well you obviously are wrong.

^

My bad, you’re right.

None were excluded, but if you count the words IMPOVERISHED, INDIGENT, AFFLUENT, OPULENT(synonym DESTITUTE), DESPOT (synonym AUTOCRAT), EXACERBATE (synonym AMELIORATE) EXCULPATE (synonym EXONERATE), PUGNACIOUS (synonym TRUCULENT), EXTRANEOUS (synonym SUPERFLUOUS), PORTENT, PRESAGE (synonym , HARBINGER) MALLEABLE, PLIABLE (synonym PLASTICITY), IMPROVISE (synonym EXTEMPORIZE), RESOLUTE (synonym INDOMITABLE), LAMBASTE (synonym EXCORIATE), EDIFY (synonym DIDACTIC), SULLEN, SURLY (corresponding word Churlish), ODIOUS, REPUGNANT (synonym EXECRABLE), VERBOSE, LOQUACIOUS (synonym GARRULOUS), REVERE (synonym VENERATE), CONTRITION , REMORSE (synonym COMPUNCTION), which are synonyms listed as one number in Direct Hits, there are 223 words in the toughest vocabulary alone meaning that there are more than 412 words between the 2 volumes.

The books has a number of synonym clusters like the ones Tenplenesis has used above and also antonyms like OPULENT and DESTITUTE. By combining them under one number there are actually more words than it appears. The best way to find out how many words there are in each book is to count the words in the index.

tenplenesis u shoudl really take those words out if u can edit ur post. that is being an ass to DH

“EXACERBATE (synonym AMELIORATE)”
I think you mean antonym

does anyone know if the words change a lot between editions? (2010-2011)

^ I don’t think it’s out yet.

Anyone who was lucky enough to receive one of those review books want to comment?

^They (i.e. 2011 editions for review) haven’t yet arrived.
