<p>I've noticed that some schools ask on the application if you have a disability.
What is this all about and do you get a preferential treatment if you do have one.</p>
<p>It helps them put your application in context. If you have a learning disability, they might look at your transcript a bit differently - looking at how you’ve worked to overcome that disability. If you have a disability that prevents you from doing a lot of stuff outside of school, they might expect less of that stuff.</p>
<p>It’s not as if it’s going to be an automatic admissions advantage, it’s more that they’ll probably use it to mitigate the negative impact of your disability on your application.</p>
<p>Further, they want to know what accommodations they’ll need to make for you. This will not impact your chances of admission, but is important information for their disability services office to have so that they can best help students with disabilities.</p>
