Disability Scholarships?

I'm a rising senior with very good stats (35 act, straight-a's, all accelerated classes, top 5% of class.) Unfortunately, I have a chronic illness (fibromyalgia), which gets in the way of my being able to work much to earn money for college. So I'm wondering, does anyone know of good scholarship sources for those with disabilities/chronic illnesses/etc.? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

JustMe17,

For starters, check out www.horatioalger.org for a $20,000 scholarship for overcoming adversity. It's due in mid-October 2007. Also, check out www.chairscholars.org for a $20,000 scholarship. It's due in mid-February 2008. If you have a fastweb.com account, make sure to put your disability in your profile so you get the scholarship opportunities for disabilities. Another option is to do word-specific Google searches and go through the search results for opportunities. I am a college freshman with a disability myself, and I won 18 scholarships after applying for over 75. Please send me a PM, and I'd be more than happy to share my thoughts and experiences about the scholarship process. I have no doubt that you can go to the college of your choice without paying a cent if you are persistent with scholarships.

Thank you so much. And sorry, but I'm really new to this board (just started today), so...what's a PM?

My son's friend has diabetes and recently told me that all of his college is being covered by Voc Rehab (vocational rehabilitation). He is planning on attending on out-of-state state university.

I don't have any details about the program and I think each state is different after doing a search....but it is worth researching. Hope that helps.
