i am definitely not recycling any essay for chicago, but i have a thing that i really want to write about which doesn't fit in well with any of their options. so i'm thinking of choosing option 5, but will that make me look like i am recycling? is there any disadvantage in choosing option 5 since chicago seem to really like their essay topics.

Chicago loves creativity. If your new topic is creative, they'll have no problem. If it's not, then it'll either
a) seem like you're recycling.
b) bore them.

Neither of which you want to do.

My son used a recycled essay and was admitted. A good essay can help your case at Chicago, but whether it's on one of their prescribed topics or one of your choice may not matter that much. Of course, everything also depends on the rest of your record -- letters, gpa, test scores, ec's.

There's really no advantage or disadvantage to choosing any of the prompts. The important thing is how you answer them.

thank you for responding to me. now i feel better because no matter what i choose as topic, it still depend on my writing.
