Disappointing conversation with Penn State

MOWC, your opinion on the subject is well known. Sorry that you think a plea for some civility is “self righteous.”

toneranger, where you come from people may be cold and rude. Where I come from (in New England) and where I now live (also in New England) people are generally pleasant and polite. They may not be effusive, they may be a bit more formal in their manners than people in some other regions, but they are certainly not unfriendly or rude. The quoted statement by the PSU person would be considered openly rude by any born-and-bred New Englander. So don’t blame it on us. Pennsylvania is a mid-Atlantic state. :)

Yes, PA is midatlantic but Philly folks have the same tendencies IMO as folks from NYC and Boston. So perhaps it’s a big city thing. I fell down subway stairs in NYC and barely got one person to ask if I was OK. I’m not sure if it’s rudeness - more a strange kind of self absorption (they didn’t see me!) And certainly these folks are known for more directness when communicating…something I actually like (and do myself). It’s actually really hard to know when a southerner doesn’t like you.

Enough of this…looking forward to hear what path the OP and his son take.
