DiSchol awards

Does anyone know if the awards will be posted on the My Blue Hen page?

My dd says hers was posted today. She was disappointed to receive the lowest of the DiScho awards, but it’s still a great deal.

Could you please share the lowest amount of the scholarships, please? My S was not invited even though his stats were higher than some that were.

I believe the lowest is $21,000 a year. I also found out my scholarship, you have to click “view my financial aid award notice” in that blue box on the right hand side.

The lowest for instate was 10k/ year. Some of my dds friends who were not invited to the weekend received 11k. The discho kids were clearly incented to attend the weekend by being initially offered lower amounts prior to weekend. For example $7500 merit awards for instate. Otherwise the kids wouldn’t have bothered attending if they had already been offered the $11k. The weekend is a marketing opportunity for UD.

Has anyone received the letter yet?

It is true, it was a Marketing Weekend for Delaware, and I think they did a really good job at selling the school. My DD received a duPont Scholarship and is thrilled. She loved the school, the people, the program of study, especially the opportunities that are offered. It will be a tough decision for her and the other scholarship recipients as they are going to be admitted to Ivys and other top schools in the next two weeks. For my DD, Delaware is her top choice right now, regardless of what happens before April 1.

Wondering if anyone has received a letter in the mail yet. I see it on the mybluehen page but thought that they were also going to mail something home.

Congrats on that DuPont scholarship tennismom. That would be impossible to turn down. Are you instate?

@4yorkshire, thank you! DD is oos. @mompom - received the letter today (sat the 24th). She is on cloud 9!!

Congratulations to your daughter, tennismom. My DD also was awarded the duPont, but she now isn’t sure that she wants to go to UDel. My DH and I were very impressed with the level of advising that these students will receive and feel that it is a fantastic opportunity. We also are OOS and she is thinking that she would prefer to be closer to home and she is also concerned that the atmosphere of the school won’t be intellectual enough. I am sure, if she were to attend UDel, that she would find a nice group of students to be friendly with. We will see what happens when she hears from the rest of her schools. We really hope that she changes her mind and accepts the scholarship.

I got the official letter yesterday (3/24) and I’m a duPont!
There is SO MUCH awarded to the duPonts…not just free college but extra money and tons of perks! I’m not sure how I can pass on the scholarship. I’m an in-stater, and currently I’m debating between the duPont, the McCabe to Swarthmore, Boatwright scholar at Richmond, and R.E.Lee Scholarship at W&L (49,200 a year)

It’s going to be a tough decision.

Congrats on all your wonderful choices! I can’t speak to the other colleges you mention, but Swarthmore is, for certain students (highly intellectual and a bit quirky), an absolutely superb school. If it appeals to you, and the money works out, I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Congratulations to… everyone. This must be a pretty exciting time. I was in the middle of class when I decided to check my blue hen page, so needless to say that was a rather thrilling episode when I found out I was a DuPont as well.

By the way, would anyone object to posting their 1) dinner table# and 2)lunch table#? There were only 101 students present so it might be fun to find out if we know who’s been posting on this thread and who received which scholarship.

Booklady- Swarthmore is a dream school of mine, I love it. I’m just not sure I love it enough to pay room&board there for four years (12k a year) when I can go for free to UD. Plus at UD I’d be a big fish in a small pond you know? I’m not sure which would end up being better for getting into a great law school. Right now, my decision is pretty much between UD and Swat.

And broncos1997 – there’s a facebook group with most of the dischos from the weekend! If you have a fb just search UDischos 2012! and join! There are almost 80 members I think out of the 101 students at the weekend.

Law school admission is primarily about your LSAT scores and GPA, but the prestige of the undergrad school does matter somewhat. That said, in four years you may not even be interested in going to law school (I started out college as a pre-med, and wound up going to grad school in art history. College changes you!)

Have you come across Keilexandra on the Swarthmore forum? She’s from Delaware and is now a soph there - I’ll bet she could give you some good advice on your choice.

Bughugs- Haha I had no idea they had that! Thanks.

Booklady-- Thank you for the advice I’ll seek her out. And you’re right-- I definitely reserve the right to change my mind over the next four years. I guess I’m just debating between which school will hold the best opportunities for me. They’re so different and Swat’s the better school, hands down, but the opportunities for DuPont Scholars are so extensive…just a lot to digest. Thank you!

broncos1997-- No problem, the group is actually called 2012 UDischos!!! so def look us up!
