Will be moving my freshman S in next week and besides the Bed, Bath and Beyond at the Providence Place Mall, are there other “discount” stores to shop at nearby? Something like a Target, K-Mart, Wall-Mart-where we can pick up a desk chair or tv stand-stuff like that. Also, where is the closest supermarket? I heard there is a Whole Food(?) nearby, but what about a Shop-Rite, King Kullen-somewhere to pick up some stapes for the small refrig we bought him. Thanks.

If you cross into Massachusetts just a few miles away there are all the major shopping stops. (Attleboro?)

Sekonk right off of 195 in Mass is where you need to go. Target, Costco, Best Buy, a lot of others...

There are two Whole Foods stores and Eastside Marketplace within walking distance, and a Super Stop and Shop just a bit further away on the East Side.

Thanks for the info. And....do you know if there are "welcome" students who help move you into the dorms? My S is in Archibold-4th floor and there are no elevators. Are students available to help move your stuff? With parking so bad around the area, I am concerned that it will take us a long time to get all the stuff out of the car, up the stairs and have to deal with the car outside.

I remember seeing people as part of the OWC, orientation and welcome committee, but my parents just always helped me and that was that. I don't know the extent to which you can get help moving.

I just expect moving in to be a major *****, because it always is. Come early and get a good parking spot, or park a few streets away so you arent in the middle of campus. Usually one of my family stays with the car in case of the police making a fuss or something, since it gets pretty nuts and finding a spot can require creativity ;-). I also usually bring a hand truck that we borrow from a neighbor, which makes moving heavy stuff easier over distances.

Also, you walk in on the second floor of Archibald so it's not as bad as you think.

There are definitely people who help bring stuff in. OWC and.. i think Bears or something. So no worries! But definitely come early. It'll be hectic, especially in Keeney since there are sooo many freshmen that live there.
