Discover Hopkins program

I was just looking for some experiences of people who have attended the Discover Hopkins program. I am genuinely interested in JHU for grad and undergrad and am eager to apply for the program to "get a taste" of life there. However, as the program is not free, I would like to hear some input before I apply.

Thanks!

I personally think if you have a strong interest in Hopkins and can afford one of these programs, you should do it. It will not only provide you with a great look at Hopkins to help with your college search, but it doesn't hurt when applying as academic enrichment programs always help in admissions reviews.

As for the Hopkins programs over other summer programs at other universities, I can't really help there. The students I know who did the pre-college programs at JHU really enjoyed them (aside from the humidity of the summer in Baltimore).

I attended it last summer and enjoyed myself immensely. It's a nice taste of a college class, and if you get into JHU you'll actually get expletive credit from it (sort of). You get plenty of free time to wander about the campus if you like or even walk around a bit in the surrounding area and see if you like that, as long as you let your RC know where you're going. You get a taste of dorm life, strange constantly-running shower and all, and you really get a lot of freedom while you're there.

If you're interested in JHU, give it a shot! I can't give a comparison/contrast with other summer programs either, since the only summer programs I've ever done have been through Hopkins (in addition to Discover Hopkins, I used to do CTY in elementary school), but I enjoyed it very much.

On the trip to DC, though, don't go to the Spy Museum. It's not worth the $16. Also, the dorms they give you have air conditioners mounted on the windows, so make sure you either remember to pack a sleeping bag or a comforter and/or get there in time to get the bed that isn't directly in front of the air conditioner. I ended up having a slight war with my roommate over the temperature of the room and also ended up sleeping under my towel.
