That seems a little untactful to only give acceptances first and then leave wait-lists and denials waiting for another date, I’m not sure how I feel about that if @desie1 's friend is right…
Also, that statement would conflict with the call made by @markb2017 today in that acceptances and denials were still in the works. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, lol.
That’s what seems like the case was, though. It doesn’t make sense to only give some acceptances one day, and then later give the rest of the results, acceptances and rejections. If they would’ve made both acceptances and rejections earlier it would be more probable, but it’s likely that no news is bad news at this point.
@berkdork It could simply be because the first batch was for shoe-in candidates and that the rest of the pool required more deliberation; let’s not lose faith just yet!
@desie1 Is she a counselor at Swarthmore?? did she just get info from someone there or is that just her own speculation?
I was just accepted to the Windows on Williams program. I was accepted into a similar program at Dartmouth this summer. I am starting to get kind of anxious about this. Swarthmore is at the top of my list…
No, she isn’t a Swarthmore counselor- sorry if that was confusing. I don’t know anyone at Swarthmore. I meant a guidance counselor. They should have let everyone know on Friday, but I guess they had their reasons.
Just recieved my rejection letter, I didn’t even get waitlisted :(. Honestly I was a bit surprised because I was accepted into Williams’ program and I felt that my essay for Swarthmore was much more unique and insightful.
Oh well, Swarthmore continues to be my #1 choice but its certainly disappointing to get rejected.
@markb2017 Hey! Where did you get the figure (2000 apps for 200 spots) from? I’m really curious because I didn’t realize the program was crazy selective!
Thank you for your interest in attending Discover Swarthmore. After receiving a record number of more than 2,000 applications for 200 spots, we were unable to extend invitations to all qualified students. The Discover Swarthmore Committee was impressed by your application, and we have placed your name on a wait list. We will notify you soon if we have a spot available for you.
Thanks again for your interest in Swarthmore, and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and productive final year of your high school career!
Sincerely,
Swarthmore College
