Discover Swarthmore 2016

That seems a little untactful to only give acceptances first and then leave wait-lists and denials waiting for another date, I’m not sure how I feel about that if @desie1 's friend is right…

Also, that statement would conflict with the call made by @markb2017 today in that acceptances and denials were still in the works. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, lol.

She is a counselor. I agree that it isn’t that nice to do acceptances on one day and leave everyone else hanging.

That’s what seems like the case was, though. It doesn’t make sense to only give some acceptances one day, and then later give the rest of the results, acceptances and rejections. If they would’ve made both acceptances and rejections earlier it would be more probable, but it’s likely that no news is bad news at this point.

@berkdork It could simply be because the first batch was for shoe-in candidates and that the rest of the pool required more deliberation; let’s not lose faith just yet!

@desie1 Is she a counselor at Swarthmore?? did she just get info from someone there or is that just her own speculation?

I was just accepted to the Windows on Williams program. I was accepted into a similar program at Dartmouth this summer. I am starting to get kind of anxious about this. Swarthmore is at the top of my list…

I got waitlisted at Swarthmore. They had over 2,000 applications for only 200 spots.

Waitlisted as well. Not an outright rejection! I’m actually thrilled lol

No, she isn’t a Swarthmore counselor- sorry if that was confusing. I don’t know anyone at Swarthmore. I meant a guidance counselor. They should have let everyone know on Friday, but I guess they had their reasons.

@intheairtonight @markb2017 did you get your results by email today?

Rejected /: , this doesn’t feel like a great start to the school year and application season lol.

@TheOnlyWhiGuy193 yes, I receiced my results by email today.

Just recieved my rejection letter, I didn’t even get waitlisted :(. Honestly I was a bit surprised because I was accepted into Williams’ program and I felt that my essay for Swarthmore was much more unique and insightful.
Oh well, Swarthmore continues to be my #1 choice but its certainly disappointing to get rejected.

Rejected but honestly I’m okay with it and kinda expected it. The fee waiver was nice though bc Williams didnt give me one with my rejection lol

Checking in! I also got waitlisted! I’m actually impressed with myself.

Took a L.

@markb2017 Hey! Where did you get the figure (2000 apps for 200 spots) from? I’m really curious because I didn’t realize the program was crazy selective!

@ScienceGal1023 It’s in the waitlist email.

Dear (redacted),

Thank you for your interest in attending Discover Swarthmore. After receiving a record number of more than 2,000 applications for 200 spots, we were unable to extend invitations to all qualified students. The Discover Swarthmore Committee was impressed by your application, and we have placed your name on a wait list. We will notify you soon if we have a spot available for you.

Thanks again for your interest in Swarthmore, and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and productive final year of your high school career!

Sincerely,

Swarthmore College

Accepted to Discover Swarthmore! Here are my stats for anyone who is interested

ACT: 36 S, 36 E, 36 R, 33 M
(but 5 on AP Calc AB seems to help 33 M)

7 IB classes, 4 APs

4.0 unweighted GPA

4.9 weighted GPA

Personally, I think my essay was well developed.

Lots of ECs, lots of regional/state awards, two national awards

Rejection…ah well, I saw it coming with my sub-par (for Swarthmore) ACT. Have a great time to everyone accepted and a huge congrats!
