Discover Swarthmore 2017

I noticed there wasn’t a thread for this yet, but there is now! Yay!

Any input is appreciated, especially from those who have been a part of this program in previous years. To those applying this year—well, I guess we can just worry together. Misery loves company! Wishing everyone luck as they send in their applications.

Hey!

I’m applying as well and I wish you good luck.

Cool!

I second Quantnia!

Just turned in my app! I wish everyone luck!

me too! anyone know what the acceptance rate is or when decisions will be released (it just says mid-August, but is there an exact date from the past)? Good luck!

Last year, around 2000 people applied for 200 spots, making the acceptance rate ~10%. Decisions last year also began coming out on August 12, which was a Friday.

I applied too! that looks even more competitive than the college itself :o @MaybeHarvard2022

Does having a bad essay here damage prospects for the actual college application? (Too late now but still curious)

Also, what were your guys’ essay topics? Mine was weird…

Oh god. oops. I didn’t realize we had to do transcripts… oh well. :frowning:

@Auracle
I don’t think having a bad essay would damage your application to Swarthmore in the fall/winter. That would be silly. As long as your essays for the actual college application is good, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I talked about how I am kept up by my fear of becoming complacent with my goals as someone who is privileged to live in the US and tied it into the story of my grandparents and how they’ve influenced me.

Thanks for the reassurance @YoLolololol! And that sounds like a great topic @MaybeHarvard2022 - I hope it works out well for you.

@Auracle thank you, I hope so too lol. What happened? You forgot to turn in your transcript? I would email them and ask if they’d allow you to still submit it, couldn’t hurt to try

Yeah, I emailed it at like 12:10 (ten minutes into the new day), hopefully they’ll accept it.

Wow, I look for a month to see if there’s anything new on the thread and in a matter of days I see all this new stuff!

I turned in my app Thursday, after many essay drafts and after getting my SAT score back on Wednesday (spoiler alert: it was terrible). My essay was pretty good though. I know it sounds kinda cliché, but mine was about the internet and how the spread of false information has actual impacts in the real world and connected it to my family’s own peculiar circumstance. God, I just hope it’ll make up for the SAT score.

I’d imagine we’d be getting our results around August 15th or so, but that’s just a guess. They change the application due date, and subsequently, the notification date, every year, so it’s hard to gauge these things.

I wish everyone the best of luck!

What is your family’s peculiar circumstance?

Just wanted to tell everyone here that a rejection from the fly-in does not equate to a rejection during admission, so don’t lose sleep about it(just have some safety schools.) I was rejected from Swarthmore fly-in(and I turned in my Swarthmore college app 3 days late), and I still got in RD. Have fun during your senior year!

Thanks williams2021! That’s really great to hear.
