I agree with elbeeen–even though it was midterm week, there was not much to do!! And I wish there were more high-energy students because those are the ones I connected with the most. I’m glad I visited, there are so many things I love about Swat and I’m glad I got to experience it in person. Just need to keep searching for a school with a better fit

I partied a lot at swarthmore (for a swattie). If you have questions about that scene, pm me.

Elbeen, keep in mind that you were a spec (this is in response to your experience but more of a note for people who are considering Swat). Taking you to a “party” party would be quite the liability. I understand that you want to have fun but you need to remember that you had a host who was responsible for you and if something were to have happened to you (which is more likely when alcohol’s involved) then there would have been some really big issues. If you’re expecting “parties” the week before midterms while a bunch of specs are running around campus then Swat definitely isn’t a fit in my opinion.

That being said, there’s a social scene here. As ID pointed out, parties don’t really get started until 11-12… usually people pre-game beforehand. There’s definitely a scene for people who drink and also for people who don’t. The Pterodactyl Hunt sounded kind of weird to me… I heard it was fun but it still doesn’t seem very appealing.

I’ve found that Thurs-Sun you can be doing ANYTHING (drinking, studying, watching a movie, etc.) and you will find people who want to do it with you.

My daughter enjoyed the Discover Swarthmore weekend. Swarthmore has climbed to the top among many excellent LACs (she’s narrowed it down to five–among them Carleton, Reed, Pomona & Kenyon). She appreciates how academics comes before sports. The goofyness of the Pterodactyl Hunt was a pleasant surprise & really hit her funny bone. For my daughter, the school feels like a great fit. These weekends are great opportunities for perspective students.

I did DiscoSwat too!! I had the best time and I loved that final night we spent playing T&D and etc… Too bad I had to leave at 5:00 the next morning. LOL.

Im wondering if everyone has been reimbursed for travel yet? I have not yet received the check.

Hope everyone is well.

It is probably a bit too soon.

Actually, I JUST got reimbursed about 2 days ago for the “subway” ish train thing from Swarthmore to Pennsylvania’s train station. But I booked my train tickets through the college so I didn’t need to be reimbursed for that. I sent that ticket the DAY we got back from Swarthmore so add however many days after coming home that you sent it and that’s when you’ll be receiving reimbursement I presume. :)

Thanks for the responses guys!
I actually drove, so I just replied in an email with the subject: Travel Information, and listed how far away I wass. So I don’t think I need to send anything in, do I?

I’ve also gotten some mail from some Swat professors, and finding the two talk transcripts sent by one of them really interesting.

On a somewhat related note, I’ve realized that I’m really bad at thinking of good questions to ask relating to colleges. >.>

Interesteddad and Etselec,

This is a belated thank you note. A while ago, I posted some concerns of my daughter’s after she returned from Discovery Swarthmore. Your replies were very informative. She was happily accepted during the ED round. I thought to circle back with you and thank you for taking the time.

Happy New Year!
