haven't gotten my letter yet!! ahh...

(why is mail so slow?)

mine was emailed.

i checked email and mail and i haven't even received a rejection/acceptance...i am kinda worried...is it b/c i live in ca? so frustrating...i want to go but i kinda figured it would be a long shot....but i want to know! ugh!

yea i love in ca too (la)
and my friend applied too and she hasn't gotten anything yet

i really wanted to go :( but oh well i guess

I live near LA and I got the acceptance by e-mail September 7. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go (making arrangements tomorrow morning!).

I applied and sent my application in way early, but if you don't get in, do they send you a "sorry you didn't get in" notice, or do they just sort of leave you guessing til the weekend is over? Well, New Mexico is really far from Pennsylvania, so let's hope it's still in snail mail limbo. I actually can't go if I get accepted because I have an orchestra concert on that weekend, damnation! Good luck to everyone!

I'm going too; it should be great!

So... who's going? Let's introduce ourselves! I'm Calvin from Arcadia, California. If I attend Swarthmore I will miss In-N-Out and fish tacos.

Maybe you won't miss fish tacos after all. Believe it or not, the closest fast food emporium to Swarthmore's campus (easy walking distance up on Baltimore Pike) is a Baja Fresh:

There's a pretty decent Thai restaurant in the same shopping center (a little pricey for the portion size, though). And a Starbucks next door. Bertucci's Pizza across the street is a winner, too -- Boston-based small chain, sit-down pizza restaurant with a bar and wood fired brick pizza ovens.

The dining hall also has a fairly regular "taco bar", but I can't remember if my daughter said it was one of the good bars or one of the disgusting bars.

No dice on the In-and-Out Burger, but you might develop a taste for Philly cheesesteaks. I'd also put in a good word for the classic Italian sub (or "grinder" as they are called in the Philly/NJ area.)

The dining hall does have a "grill man" who will whip you up a good greasy hamburger from the grill while you wait -- a tempting option if the taco bar is bad!

Or, if you are feeling really flush, you could spring for a visit to Iron Chef Morimoto's restaurant in Philly.

Hi guys, I have a bit of a dilmena here. I just got my letter today telling me that I've been "rejected." However, they told me it was because I sent it in after the application deadline. I know for sure I sent it in on August 24th. Is this just a nice way of rejecting me? Or should I try to investigate? Also, they said they had a fee waiver attached, but I couldn't find anything in the letter. Or should I just let it go?... A bit confused right now...

I received a similar letter of rejection, but mine said that had "so many qualified applicants" that they just couldn't take an "outstanding" person like me. Er, I'm thinking these are nice ways of rejection, but it's strange that yours tells you that you didn't make the deadline when you did...

SDXL,

I'd call the office and ask.

Yeah, my rejection letter was because "they had way more people respond than they anticipated". Bull crap! Can't they just tell you flat out that you weren't selected because you just weren't one of the more academically qualified? Jeez. Oh well, I got accepted to the Macalester one and I'm still waiting on the Smith one. Hope everyone selected has tons of fun!

Thank you for replying to my post! I talked to my school's guidance secretary (she's in charge of sending applications, students are not allowed to handle transcipts) and she confirms that she sent it on the 24th. I tried calling the Admissions Office earlier today, but to no avail. I've just written them an email about it. Hopefully there will be some good news; or at the very least it'll put my mind at rest. Thanks again!

well at least you guys are lucky that you've already gotten a response

i haven't even gotten a letter or e-mail yet :(

ilovefish - have you gotten a response yet?

I emailed them Friday evening and I still haven't heard back from them yet. Needless to say this is definitely inauspicious. Oh well, probably my fault for taking the essay a bit too lightly. shrugs oh well.

nope,

the first time i called they told me to wait
then i emailed and no response
so i'm not sure..hmm

:(

...i wish it wasnt during the weekend of homecoming..

Just for those who didn't go. It was absolutely amazing. If there's another opportunity definitely take the time to make sure you get it in on time. There were only like 150 people out of over 400 who applied so don't feel too bad.
