<p>Would it be wise to talk about cigarettes as a personal/global issue? I pretty much wanted to talk about how growing up in a family where smoking is common has affected me, and that restrictions should be made to prevent death among youths. Will it sound too cliche?</p>
<p>If this is for the Common App, they’re not using that prompt anymore. </p>
<p>Otherwise, I think this essay would probably end up being more about smoking than you, and (depending on how you write it) it might come across like you’re making a really big deal out of nothing.</p>
<p>Teen smoking is certainly a national and likely a global issue, and a personal one to you, so it fulfills the prompt as a topic. But what hh says, see the new CA prompts:
