Disqualify for Cal Grant

Hello. I am in big trouble and hope somebody can give me some advises.

I am a UCSB transfer student. When I first checked my financial status, it shows that I can have about 20K(Cal Grant->12K, Federal pell->5.5K, UCSB grant->2K). The other cost is about 30K so I think I can handle the 10K deficit.

But today, I got a email tell me I am disqualified for cal grant. I guess the reason is I wasn't a CA resident when I graduated from High School. Are U kidding me!!!!! I made this decision based on the financial status, otherwise I just go to Cal State, it won't cost me that much. I already SIRed, gave up the admissions of other school, found roommates/apartment and sign a one-year contract. U tell me I have to pay 12K more now?

Well, I email the financial office, but of course, won't get any response until Monday. I guess I can't sleep tight these two nights...I don't know if there is anything I can do. I mean, I can't ask them for money if I am not qualified. But, I really appreciate if someone can tell me sth that can help this situation. Thanks.

You may be disqualified for a Cal Grant, but UCs can still give you a UC grant. See if they will do that for you.

Thanks for replying me. I get $2000 UCSB grant. I am not sure is it the same as the UC grant.

What I’m saying is that if you are disqualified for a Cal Grant, maybe they will increase your UC grant. After all, if they will meet need up to instate rates for an OOS student, why wouldnt they do that for you?
