I am looking for a little information and am wondering if you can help me. My D applied to UDel on January 2nd. She applied to the honors program and the music department. She would like to double major. I called the admissions office yesterday and asked about when we would hear about her admissions because we still haven’t heard. They said it takes up to 12 weeks. Given that I asked, does this mean she won’t even be considered for the Distinguished Scholars Day, and they said yes. They indicated that next Monday was the last day for these invites to go and since she hasn’t been admitted yet there wouldn’t be time to consider her.
So my questions are: of those of you who have been invited when did you apply?
Was there an earlier deadline for consideration for these scholarships, that we missed?
Is anyone aware of any music majors whoever got invited to Distinguished scholars day?
(It is our understanding that the music department takes control of the music majors applications and that is why we are delayed and not being considered. It appears we should not have applied as a music major and should have applied earlier, and that after being admitted added music to the application, or waited until she attended. I just put this out there for future potential double majors to consider. We haven’t had this problem at any other colleges.)
I am disappointed. My Dad earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at UDel and I have a cousin that attended. It would have been nice to have another family member attend. I don’t like the fact that they didn’t make this clear, and I don’t like that fact that they didn’t even consider her. If they had looked at the file and said no we aren’t inviting, I could live with that – It happens. But I think she at least deserves consideration.
I talked with the admissions office yesterday and got the impression there are still some coming out. The impression I got was that Monday is the last day.
Thanks summerhazed. I know they say all majors are considered. However, what I am hearing is that because of the music major auditions their files get delayed and don’t make it back to admission in time to be considered. Do you know of any music majors who actually got a distinguished scholars day award?
I spoke to someone higher up in the admissions office, and they told me music students can still be considered. They just have to get the decisions from the music department. He indicated that all the majors that require an audition take a bit longer and that there is another round of DSD invites coming. Just figured I’d pass along what I heard in case it helps anyone else.
