Distrubuted Course Requirements for College of Arts and Sciences

All,

(#1) I noticed the following requirements in the 2006-2008 bulletin. There are four required courses each in in A&H and S&H.

"To ensure that they gain a rich and varied education, the College requires students to complete 12 courses for distribution requirements. These 12 courses must be distributed according to the following rules:

Students must complete one Topics course as specified above.
Students must complete four designated courses in the arts and humanities, four designated courses in social and historical studies, and four designated courses in natural and mathematical sciences. The appropriate Topics course will count as one of the required courses in that area." per the following link:

(#2) On the other hand, the department of Chemistry has the following distributed course requirement:

"1 Topics Course (take College of Arts and Sciences E103, E104, or E105)
2 Arts & Humanities studies courses
College of Arts and Sciences E103 will also count here if taken
2 Social & Historical studies courses
College of Arts and Sciences E104 will also count here if taken" per the following link:

Why are the requirements different? Is the (#1) requirement for College of Arts?

Thanks

Probably because chemistry requires so many credit hours taken in chemistry (45). That is way more credits than are required for most S&H and A&H majors in the major field. So they reduced the A&H and S&H.
