Is it correct that Psy P101 is not going to satisfy any course requirement for a student majoring in Chemistry?

Not true. It would fulfill some of the required Arts & Sciences distribution requirements. I dont know for sure, but im guessing P101 is an N&M class (Natural and mathematical) or S&H (which i forget what it stands for), both of which you need to take a certain number of credit hours in to graduare from IU regardless of your major within the College of Arts & Sciences.

It would be redundant to take P101 for N&M credit if you are majoring in chemistry, since probably all of the chemistry classes are also N&M.

Psychology P102 would get S&H credit.

Loonlake,

Thanks for the input. PSY P101 is not a topics course. The Chemistry department requires one topics courses + 2 A&H + 2 S&H as shown below. Since P101 belongs to N&M, it won’t satisfy the following course requirement and the AP credit might be useless.

* 1 Topics Course (take College of Arts and Sciences E103, E104, or E105)
- 2 Arts & Humanities studies courses
o College of Arts and Sciences E103 will also count here if taken - 2 Social & Historical studies courses
o College of Arts and Sciences E104 will also count here if taken

bthomp1,

Now, it may be difficult to convince S1 of the need to prepare for his AP Psych test. :(

Also, I did not see any course from Physics department. Did I miss something?

Ace, the course descriptions site is very hit and miss; a lot of classes don’t get described there.

This link to the schedule has all the classes.

bthomp1,

Your are right. I found PHYS in another link. OneStart has it too.

Also, what I said about Psy 101 is not correct. It should be counted as an elective course, right?

Is it correct that a “W” will be recorded even if a student withdraws from a class in the 1st week?

After the first week, ace.

If you drop in the first week, the course won’t be reflected on your transcript at all.

IllinoisMom2006 & Vihzel,

Got it. Thanks.

Does a student with a science major need to take some distribution courses at higher levels?
